Learn traditional Tai Chi for health, balance, and martial arts.
Learn authentic Tai Chi techniques from a certified instructor with over 40 years of experience. Specializing in Yang 60 movement form, corrections, sword, Fan, Staff, and push hands training to enhance your health and martial arts skills.
In the class called "Corrections", the body mechanics of the Tai Chi
form, the mind and how it relates, and the blending of the mind and
body is taught. The student becomes aware of new relationships, has
better control of his or her body, develops internal strength of one's
body and eventually learns to abandon fear and anxiety for calmness,
vitality, flexibility and good body coordination.
"Push Hands" is a two person exercise that helps the student learn how to deal with energy coming from another person. After learning the benefits of the "Form", the "Push Hands" exercise helps the student learn how to apply the principles of Tai Chi in a self-defense, or martial art manner. After much study, the student will learn how to absorb energy, and then use that energy to defeat an opponent. Relaxation, sensitivity, internal strength, flexibility, and rooting are learned, rather than brute force and tension.
The "Sword Form", like the William CC Chen 60 Movement Form, contains all the elements and principles of Tai Chi Chuan and adds the sword as part of the movements. The sword becomes part of the body, moving only when the body moves, and in the same direction. Because this form incorporates the use of a weapon, this form is more obvious as a martial art. The same health benefits, however, can be obtained when doing the Sword Form as doing the Form without a weapon.

The stretching movements make the body limber, tone up muscles, and help release tension. As a meditation, Tai Chi is a way of harmonizing body and mind dynamically.
Great Grandmaster Cheng Man-ch'ing, who was William CC. Chen's teacher, describes Tai Chi Chuan simply as "The "Supreme Utlimate" exercise for health, sport, and self-defense." When discussing the principles of Tai Chi Chuan, he says, "As a whiff, nothing is more pliable than air, nothing more yielding than water. But as tornadoes and tidal waves, air and water carry everything before them. Mass integration makes the difference."

I have found that the students needing to learn Tai Chi Chuan the most, have difficulty finding time to learn. This is usually a result of type "A "personality and who are stressed out, doing too many things, and can't seem to find the stop button in their lives. A successful student realizes this, and makes the time and commitment to learn Tai Chi Chuan.
In Cheng Man-Ching's Advanced T'ai-Chi Form Instructions compiled and translated by Douglas Wile, Great Grandmaster Cheng Man-Ching discusses the three faults of students.
The first fault is lack of perseverance. He writes: If one approaches the study of this art (tai chi) without perseverance, not only is it a waste of time, but one emerges empty handed from a mountain of treasures.
The second fault is greediness. If a posture or two is taught during a lesson, then practiced and understood, progress is accomplished. If more than one or two postures are taught, or if the lesson is not practiced, confusion is inevitable.
The third fault is haste. Try to remember that as water flows it naturally cuts a channel, and that things cannot be forced. To hastily learn the art of tai chi chuan, one builds a foundation on sand. It will eventually collapse. Learn the art slowly and it will make perfect sense.
If a student can eliminate these faults then the profit will be infinite.
